 Empathy
« Thread Started on Mar 4, 2004, 10:27am »

The book definition would be: A person with a special gift of being able to experience the thoughts and feelings of the people around them.

It may seem all fine and dandy...being able to know what people are feeling, but sometimes it can be too much. In some rare cases an empath can black out from an overload of emotions...usually negative emotions. An example would be if surrounded by a ongoing fight where insults are being thrown around and negative energy is surrounding an empath, they will either try to stop it before they pass out or they will attempt to run away from it before they...pass out.

There are several other situations similiar to this.

Empaths occassionally have the additional ability, aside from the core ability of being able to sense emotions and thoughts (to an extent), of being able to feel the core of a person, what makes the person who they are. With this, they can actually feel if someone has a unique ability, such as being a mystic or an elf.

Also, empaths can not sense anything when it comes to other empaths, so it makes it easy for them to recognize and identify each other.

In addition, strong emotions left over in a place, strong traces of dark magic and residual memories, can affect empaths in different ways, causing visions of the past, or severe waves of emotions that can damage the empath. If an empath is affected by this for two long without being pulled out of it, they can have resulting changes in who they are as a person, a complete change in personality. In other cases, unconsciousness, coma, or even death can result.

Another thing that can effect an Empath is the range in which they can feel. Some have a small range only vary from a few feet. Other's have a giant range, being able to feel people's emotions to several hundred feet away. Depending on how much more an Empath has to take in can greatly effect who they are and how they carry themself.

If controlled an empath can use there gift to actually power their magic, and the bigger the range the more powerful the gift. On really rare occasions if two empaths manage to combine their strength almost anything is possible.
