The Shi'ar are a dwindling race with very few villages remaining, mostly in Asia (so don't have your Shi'ar hailing from California please). They are ancient, as old as the mystics and some believe the two to be descended from a greater race. Shi'ar live in small villages and their societies are governed by a matriarchal system as females are more powerful than males. Each village is goverend by its priestess and the Shi'ar are very religious and spiritual. The line of priestesses is hereditary and the priestess is called the Aveta. Though the Shi'ar themselves are peaceful people, the priestesses are relied upon to protect their village and are usually trained in the fighting arts.
Shi'ar differ from humans in some key ways. First, they typically have unnatural hair or eye colours (Miyu, for example, has violet hair and eyes). Also, when they use their power, wings appear on their backs. The color of these wings varies, depending on the individual, and matches their magical aura. They also gain a symbol of a lotus on their forehead.
All shi'ar have certain common abilities. They can communicate telepathically and use some degree of telekinesis. In addition, each Shi'ar manifests a unique ability of their own, related to psychic magic (ie.- Miyu's psychic shockwaves and sword). Shi'ar also typically are more adept at magic, both offensive and defensive, but are weak physically and more prone to injury than other races.
