Post by Rune Epona-Rhiannon on Apr 19, 2006 19:00:55 GMT -5
Accepted! Welcome Aboard! Your Profile will be moved as soon as I'm able. ~ Headmistress Lockehart
Name: Rune Epona-Rhiannon (or, more simply, "Rune")
Age: 335
Height: 6'5" (from hoof to head)
Eye Color: Black
Hair Color: Red
Race: Centaur
Physical Traits: As a female centau, Rune's human half is fair-skinned and rather freckled, especially around the shoulders. She has flaming red hair and deep black eyes that never seem to miss a thing. The horse half of her body is that of a fine roan mare, of jump-horse type features (rather stocky and muscled, but still sleek and "feminine"). She has a black tail and black "socks" above three of her hooves - her back left leg just above the hoof is just as spottled-roan as the rest of her horse-body.
Specialty: Since Rune never attended Hogwarts, she can't really say she's an expert at any one thing. However, as Grounds Keeper, she knows every inch of the grounds and the Forbidden Forest. Her "specialties" also include a keen eye with a crossbow (which she prefers to the more "traditional" yew bows used by other centaurs), a vast knowledge of astronomy, and extensive understanding of divination, both human and centaur (though she's doesn't claim, by any stretch, to be a Seer or future-teller). Like her name, Rune is also quite an accomplished linguist with the runic language and has quite an interest in arcane magics that are mostly unknown to most wizards or witches.
Character Quirks: Perhaps Rune's most obvious quirk is that she lives as Hogwarts Grounds Keeper, and not in the Forbidden Forest with the rest of her herd. She was kicked out almost a hundred years ago, for developing what many of the centaurs felt was a dishonorabe fondness for humans. (For example: when Rune was thrown out and she sought asylum with the humans, she adopted a surname. Centaurs do not have need of "family surnames", but Rune choose a combination of two names in place of a surname, in honor of two "human-made" horse goddesses). Rune is fascinated by the wizarding world and as a result, isn't as "head-in-the-clouds" as many centaurs, preferring to keep all four hooves planted firmly in reality and leave the Fates to weave the future of the world in peace. The female centaur is also unusually protective of the students of Hogwarts and can be rather fierce if she catches students near or (worse) in the Forbidden Forest. She takes her job seriously and truly loves Hogwarts, a trait that is best shown in the care she takes of the grounds and all the creatures that live there, from students, to professors, to the lowliest little bowtrunkle. She also hates being asked about divining the future and unlike most centaurs, she could really care less to know what the stars foretell and makes that quite apparent. The topic of centaur life is taboo for her, as well, and she never talks of her life before becoming Hogwarts Ground Keeper.
Vices: Rune has quite the temper. In fact, it's rather legendary. It's truly an unpleasant event to be caught by her, sneaking around or in the Forbidden Forest. And while the following may not be vices, per se, they do get on the nerves of the younger population of Hogwarts - Rune has a tendency to "mother" and constantly refers to the students (regardless of age) as her "foals". She's also quite the stickler for the rules and though she enjoys visits from students (and encourages such), she'll fly into a temper if she catches anyone sneaking around on the grounds after hours. Rune also has a tendency to be a bit vain about her appearance (one centaur trait she didn't loose was her pride in her half-human appearance) and sometimes, she comes across as a know-it-all when talking about the things she has an interest in (like Runes, Arcane Magic, the Grounds, and so forth). She can also clam up at the strangest things - if pressed too hard, she can stop talking about things, especially if it has to do with Arcane Magic (since, in her opinion, such things are too much for a mere human to know and handle). And if Rune gives you the cold shoulder...look out. You've managed to get on her bad side.
For adults only - Position desired: Hogwarts Grounds Keeper
Writing Sample:
"Well...if it isn't the traitor, Rune," a voice startled Rune and she turned toward it, frowning slightly.
Her sharp eyes quickly adjusted to the gloom of a nearby oak and caught the frowning - and well-known - visage.
"Balthar," she said simply, by way of greeting.
Even though it had been over a century since she had been driven from her herd, Rune's heart still ached when she caught sight of Balthar's face. He was the current leader of the Forbidden Forest centaurs...and her one-time mate.
"What brings you to the Forest so late at night?" his voice was a dangerous growl. "You should know better..."
"Duties," Rune answered simply and Balthar snarled.
"How can you stand to do it?" he stomped a hoof in barely-contained rage. "How can you live each day in servitude to humans? You are a disgrace!"
"Then why are you going out of your way to speak to me?" Rune countered simply, ignoring Balthar's reference to her current line of work as Hogwarts' Grounds Keeper.
Balthar didn't answer. He simply tossed his head proudly, much like a horse would, and pawed the ground in slight aggrivation.
Could it be...could it possibly be...that he still feels for me the way I feel for him? Even after all these years? After all that has happened?
Rune barely dared to hope. Yet, she had often wondered - as she did now - why she was allowed to travel through most of the Forbidden Forest without worry of attack from her fellow centaurs. Normally, if one was thrown from the herd, they were thrown from the Forest. But Rune could still travel through on her duties. A fact she found strange.
A fact she attributed to Balthar's influence on the herd.
"You know you could come back," Balthar's voice suddenly turned soft - almost pleading. "I can convince the others to allow you back to the herd...if you would only loose this silly obsession with humans and human magic."
"The humans can learn much from us," Rune shook her head slowly. "We have much knowledge...we can guide them -"
"They would only make us their slaves!" Balthar whinnied angrily, his grey eyes flashing. "Do you know see what they have done to the House Elves all these centuries? They took a proud race and enslaved them! And worse - bred them to enjoy their slavery and forget their great heritage!"
"Yet there are some who realize the error of their ways," Balthar's banished mate spoke in the same gentle tones she normally used with students.
"They are few - and they could not possibly change the world!"
"They could if we helped. The foals are impressionable. They need only a guiding hand -"
"Silence, mare!" Balthar thundered, any tenderness in his expression quite lost. "I do not understand you! You abandon your own foals - to what? To teach human foals? As you should have your own?"
It took all of Rune's dignity to keep her from hanging her head at those words. She missed her two foals...who were now, surely, grown and fast approaching their rite of passage as stallions.
"You disgust me," Balthar's voice dripped with anger...but somewhere underneath it all, Rune heard his sorrow.
Balthar could not go against the ancient decrees of their people. He could not let her back into the herd. He wasn't even supposed to allow her access to the Forest. Rune didn't even understand why...after so many, many years, her mate decided to show himself and remind her of her painful past.
"Why have you come to torment me, Balthar?" she finally hung her head, trying to hide the tears in her eyes.
At first, she didn't think he would answer, as he turned and melted quietly into the shadows. She could hear his hooves rustling in the leaves, but then they stopped and his voice drifted back to her -
"I watch you every time you enter this Forest, to keep the others from attacking you. There is still a part of me that hopes you will forget your foolishness and return. I would have you back, even if the others didn't."
And then she heard his hooves move farther and farther away and she finally understood.
Balthar still loved her. He still protected her. And he still hoped that she would realize her error...as she still hoped he would realize his.
And for the first time in centuries, Rune lifted her face to the heavens and cried out in pain and grief.

Post by Cobalt Blue on Apr 26, 2006 18:11:56 GMT -5
Name: Cobalt (real name unknown)
Age: 17
Height: 5'11"
Eye Color: Right eye is green; left eye is blue
Hair Color: Blue
Race: Elf
Physical Traits: His hair is blue, and for all appearances it's his normal hair color.
Specialty: Charms
Character Quirks: He has multiple copies of the same style of robes, and that's all anyone ever sees him in. It's instinctively dual-layered. Underneath his off-white robes lie a blue-colored under robe with a green shirt and pants underneath. He likes to invent incantations, although oftentimes they end up being more destructive than they are constructive.
Vices: Sarcasm.
History: When Cobalt was a baby he showed exceptional abilities, although they were most often destructive. It only got worse as he got older, generating massive thunderstorms from seemingly out of nowhere. The day after his ninth birthday, a bolt of lightning struck down on his tribe and killed one of the Elders. The remaining council members blamed this young boy for it and had him exiled. He was sent out into the forest with nothing but a sack of clothes and his only birthday present: a wand.
He wandered the wilderness for what seemed like forever, crying himself to sleep the first month. In time, he developed a toughness and learned how to survive in the wilderness. When he wasn't hunting for food or running from predators, he honed his skills with the wand. He turned his hair blue as a way of seperating himself from his former tribe, and adopted a nickname that matched his hair color.
Two years had passed before he ended up stumbling into London. He had long left the sack in favor of layering his clothes, and only had his wand in his hand at all times. He stumbled into a mission house and found refuge there. It was very strange for Cobalt to be in civilization again, but he soon adopted the mannerisms of those surrounding him, and he quickly decided that if he was going to build himself up into normalcy, he would have to enroll at Hogwarts just like all the other eleven-year-olds.
To hide his normally quiet disposition, he took the traits of one of the other children at the mission house. As far as anyone at Hogwarts were to know, Cobalt was just a blue-haired trouble-maker with an affinity for Charms.
That persona didn't last long, as he was hurled into one bad situation after another. Everyone had something to say about his heritage, and he would almost always end up fighting them. Not wishing to hide his destructive abilies anymore, Cobalt unleashed a massive lightning storm in the courtyard, where scars of that day still remain in the walls.
His seventh year at Hogwarts, he met Olivia. She was someone else's girl, but that didn't matter to Cobalt. Olivia was bored with her boyfriend, and wanted someone a bit more adventurous. They had fun, sneaking into formerly locked area for "study sessions", and for the first time since being exiled, Cobalt felt at home.
Then the battle happened. The fight that would transcend time and space.
Cobalt boards a train to Hogwarts as a seventh year, with the suspicion that he has already done this before. Olivia is still fresh in his mind, and the only reason why he is on that train is to find her.
For students only - Choose your house (Top 3): Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin
Writing Sample: Journal Entry #16 I had another dream last night. It was about her. I had given her the Ravenclaw password, so that we could meet in the Common Room after curfew. She saw something in the wall, so she pressed it in. A door appeared, so we explored the new room. It was filled with traps, and when we got to the end we found a large circular room with a table in the middle. It looked old and used. There were straps on the ends, like it was for something terrible. For a moment, it felt like the screams of that room were stuck inside the walls. The moment passes, and she sits on the table. I could smell the lavender on her. She pulls me close and then I wake up.
Counting this entry, this makes fourteen dreams I've had of her. I keep hearing that name echoing in my head: Olivia. I feel like I've known her, and yet I've never met her. Why do I feel like this? Is this a memory of my past I have long forgotten? How could I forget someone like her?
I am on a train to Hogwarts. My seventh, and last year there. Will I see her, will I see Olivia? Does she have the same dreams that I do?
Looks like someone wants to talk to me. Time to put on my "mask".

She also likes to party- a lot! She also tends to flirt, especially with taken guys, but won't try to take them away, unless the girl is a you-know-what. She likes to laugh and has a sense of humour, but she can get quiet when she is around people she does not know.

She is pure-blood and a Dark Art Supporter, as is the rest of her family. Nicole tends to go on the evil side of schemes, which she gets from her whole family, and has been known for being spoiled, as if her other cousins and relatives. For students only - Choose your house (Top 3): 1. Slythorin (If I must pick the next two...) 2. Ravenclaw 3. Hufflepuff (But if I am, I'm leaving Hogwarts and going to Durmstang.) (Note- this is the character, I'm not really demanding like this!)
Writing Sample: Nicole looked across the room at the two giggling nitwits sitting at the table reading some stupid gossip magazine. She scowled at them, and couldn't wait for them to leave. She was expecting soem special to meet her, and didn't want those ditzes running around the school telling everbody about 'a new couple'! She stopped doing her homework. She wanted to wait for him to get there before finishing it, seeing as how this was a study date. She looked at the two girls, as if daring them to look at her and say something. She was feeling a bit anxious, and kept looking at the clock, impatiently. Before she got too angry and frustrated, she got up and left the library. She decided that the guy was not worh waiting for anyway, there are many better guys. As she walked down the corridor, the guy she was supposed to meet came around the corner. She didn't even wait for him to explain why he was late, she just marched right past him.

Post by 'Bekah "Sage" Niles on May 4, 2006 18:04:30 GMT -5
Approved, please pm Marcus to discuss what job you will have ~ Headmistress Lockehart
Name: Rebekah (prefers 'Bekah) "Sage" Niles, but goes solely by Sage.
Age: 32.
Height: 5'7", 5'8" -- give or take.
Eye Color: Dark Blue.
Hair Color: Black as a raven's wings.
Race: Mystic.
Physical Traits: There are scars on her face to where she was tortured as a young girl before and after graduation from Hogwarts; it is unknown who the individual was, but Bekah actually knows it was the person who murdered her parents when she was a baby.
Specialty: Sage was a human database during her years at Hogwarts, which had its rather...interesting results. Sometimes, she could pass a test with a high grade or could accidentally set someone on fire when she debated on what spell to use.
Character Quirks: Aside from being an accidental "brainac", Sage is really eccentric, not to mention spirited. Sage can also be a jerk at times when she feels like picking on people, overall, Sage is really a misunderstood person.
Vices: Anger is her greatest vice and then her ability to recall things -- it can be a pain in the arse...
History: Sage was born in the Isle of Man to two Mystic parents who wanted a different life for their only child, but alas, their dreams were soon shattered as they were killed by a young Mystic that they had tried to teach the ways of the Mystics and how to harness them. Alone with no other family known to be alive, Sage was taken to an orphanage with one leader who knew her parents raising her for ten years.
In these ten years, Sage grew up believing she was much like the other children, but yet...she could remember what they did the year before and quite often was questioned about what she was, however, the others in the orphanage would never know about her completely. The main memory Sage would say she recalls as being the worst there is when they picked on her for being different -- Sage will admit she hated the place and still to this day she doesn't like it. Right before she received the letter to Hogwarts, a gentleman offered to take care of Sage and raise her as his own, but little did Sage know that it was the same one who had murdered her parents. As she lived with him before her 11th birthday, Sage started to learn what she was from the man pushing her to the brink of insanity as he continously questioned who she was.
When Sage started Hogwarts, Sage was sorted into Slytherin --she thought the nightmare was over, but it was a blessing and curse. Her caretaker always took her away during holidays and upon her arrival back from the breaks, newly fresh scars were seen on her face. Never admitting who did them, Sage's anger boiled inside and soon, Sage learned the truth: She was a Mystic and her caretaker wanted her secrets. After graduation, the caretaker tried to begin and twist her into some evil being, but Sage was hell-bent on not falling prey to him twice. Escaping with only the clothes and wand with her, Sage went into hiding, but tried numerous times to find other Mystics to help her learn and eventually learned from her parents' friends. To this day, Sage is still hunted by the man and is ready to end it all -- an ultimate showdown to prove that his injustice will end and her parents will be avenged.
Job: Not for sure right now, but possibly a bodyguard for the Minister of Magic?
Writing Sample:
Sage appeared in London, firmly clasping her wand and keeping her eyes open. If he appeared, would she be prepared? One voice warned not to engage in the battle -- that she wasn't prepared while the other said that he deserved to be punish for all the suffering he had put her through. Walking to the directions she had been given, Sage went to a bar called the Leaky Cauldron and entered.
People were either drunk, getting there, or beginning their evening with a drink or they were animatedly chatting about something as she opened the door. A table near her stopped talking and stared at her -- sure, she looked different, she wasn't wearing robes, but a leather outfit. "I'm just like you, why are you staring at me then?" Sage said to herself as she passed them and her mind registered each person in the room -- it was as if her brain was recording each one of them in a book. Soon enough, Sage saw a person sitting alone--more than likely, it was them. Walking towards them, Sage nodded as she stood in front of them. "I'm here about the job. M.o.M. business, I've understood? Last name's Niles, but I prefer you just call me Sage, all right?" Sage said as stood and waited.
